Making Pyrometric Cone Packs
Here's a quick video about the simple configuaration - and a few tips - that I use to create the necessary pyrometric cone 'packs' that go into every glaze firing I do.
In any high temperatre reduction-fired gas kiln, these compact cone packs are abolutely essential. I do use a pyrometer to gauge temperature increases and keep a kiln-firing chart, or kiln log, where I record temperature changes every 30 minutes., This kiln log allows me to easily compare one firing to another. But, the final 'shut off' temperature is solely determined by the falling positions of the cones. So, in my instance, cones are important. And here's how I create these essential 'tools'...
